How to Avoid the Email Black Hole

How to Avoid the Email Black Hole:

Formal versus Informal Correspondence

Just last week I finished up a very important proposal for a prospective client that I was most anxious to land. The proposal took me a couple of days and a few rewrites to get it just right. In my excitement, I saved my proposal to a .pdf file format and emailed it over to the client immediately when I was done. I was surprised when they didn’t email back right away, acknowledging receipt or giving me any feedback. But I knew I had to be patient, so I waited…and waited, and waited. After a week went by, I rang the prospect up to see what they thought of my proposal and he said that he hadn’t received it.

Blast! My email was never received. I just lost five important days in the sales cycle.

This is just one of the shortcomings of email in business.

Your Super Bowl Resume? I’m Lovin’ It!

Job Seekers: Your Super Bowl Resume? I’m Lovin’ It!

Looking for a job? How marketable are you?

Yesterday a client sent me a question I’ve heard often, especially in this era of nearly 10% unemployment: “Am I marketable?”

If you are asking this question, the first thing to do is to congratulate yourself for “getting” it, for understanding that you have to deliver a compelling message. The answer is a surprising one.

Facebook Founder uses Snail Mail?

Facebook Founder uses Snail Mail?

I know it’s hard to believe but it’s true. Yes, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has his own personal stationery. This is not remarkable news for the leaders of most corporations. But the notorious Mr. Zuckerberg happens to reign over a high-tech empire that is famous for gluing people to their computers and smart phones where they conduct most of their interpersonal communications via Wall posts. The Facebook Corporate Headquarters is not what one would consider to be a mecca for traditional cotton letterhead and matching #10 envelopes.

Letters from Camp

Hello Mother, Hello Father, Here I am at Camp…Letters from Camp!

“Dear Mom, I do not miss you” Those are wonderful words written by my little girl at camp. Recently I have been hanging on every word my kids have written- So far two letters from my oldest and one from my youngest. They have been short and sweet but have spoken volumes. All is well with the world because they are loving camp very far, far away from home.
