What’s the deal with this paper?

(February 17, 2012) by Cullen Rodgers, Product Developer, Social Expressions

I don’t know about everyone else, but more than once I’ve confused myself trying to determine the differences in paper weights. The paper weight on one package says it is 60 lb paper, but yet it feels much lighter than another package of paper that states it is also 60 lb weight. What’s the deal? Unfortunately, the Constitution does not guarantee that all paper is created equal – so let’s try to figure this out.

We believe that eyes may be the doorway to the soul, but the hands are the doorway to a successful encounter. Robert E. Brown and Dorthea Johnson

Have you ever met someone, shook their hand and been disappointed? The limp rag shake or the death grip both leave you with an impression about that person. What reaction are you getting with your hand shake?
Today we will help everyone make a great impact with their hand shake. That first impression is so important –Let’s make it a great one.
There are 5 parts to an Introduction.

Are you among the 132 million* USA adults holding down a full time job? Or perhaps you are in the mix of 27 million* with part time jobs? Or maybe you are self-employed? Whatever the situation, congratulations you have a job and an income stream. But this is not the time to get cozy and feel secure. You need some insurance to protect your career and your financial future. I’m not talking about life insurance. I’m talking about professional networking.

(January 20, 2012) by Cullen Rodgers, Product Developer, Social Expressions

When I think of Valentine’s Day, one of the first things that come to mind for me is the cards - the racks upon racks of greeting cards that start pouring into the aisles of retail stores immediately following New Year’s. The same racks that, fast forward 5 weeks later, are barren and wiped out like the milk freezer at a grocery store on the day a snowstorm is forecasted. Why all the cards… why the need? We live in a digital world. We communicate digitally every day don’t we? Can’t we just email or, better yet, text our loved ones on Valentine’s Day to tell them how important they are to us? Well I guess we can, but does it really mean the same? Isn’t it the effort that makes it meaningful, the idea that someone took time and put thought into it that really makes it special to us?

How to remember people’s names when you first meet them and afterwards

December 22, 2011, by Kathy McAfee, America’s Marketing Motivator

A simple yet challenging bit of networking finesse is to have a good memory. Remembering people’s names, faces and details when you see them again (months, weeks or even minutes later) makes a formidable impression on them. The “in one ear and out the other” is a common aliment of most adults after being introduced to someone at a networking event. Without the help of name tags it can be quite awkward to introduce the person you just met to someone else you know if you have forgotten their name already. Out of discomfort, many people default to a worse social offense: not introducing them at all.

How do you avoid these uncomfortable situations? How do you crank up your social savvy and learn how to stick people’s names into your working short term memory?

December 16, 2011 by Cricket Wantland, Business Etiquette Consultant

As technology changes the basics of an invitation remain the same

This holiday season you rush to your mail box to see what holiday parties you and your family have been invited to. There is nothing better than a holiday get-together. We all love seeing how other people decorate during the holidays. A party is an opportunity to visit with friends you may not have seen recently or celebrate with your best friends that have supported you through the year! But this year you decide to host the party. How do you go about inviting people? The formula is easy and it really does not ever change.
